Game On Quest

Help

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do students need an account?

No. They scan the QR code on the projector, or go to gameonquest.com/play and type the PIN (the game's number code), then pick a nickname and an avatar.

What's the difference between Projector Mode and Live Mode?

Projector Mode needs only a projector: teams answer on paper or A/B/C/D cards and you tap their answers. Live Mode puts every student in the game on their own phone or Chromebook, with the QR code or the PIN.

Can a student join the same game twice?

Not if you close the entry. In Live Mode, once the class is in, click the padlock (Close the entry) in the lobby or during the game: nobody new can join. Students already in come back on their own device, and you can still give a seat back to a student who changed devices. Click the padlock again to let a late student in.

How do the Spell Cast runes work?

Every student who gets the question right gets 5 runes on the phone. They start at the yellow dot and trace the rune with a finger, in one stroke. The server compares the trace with the rune and gives 0 to 3 stars: the closer to the line, the stronger the spell. No microphone, no camera.

Can I change the mini-games of Spell Cast?

Yes. In Games → Spell Cast, write the content of the mini-games: riddles, potions, sentences and words. Whatever you leave empty uses our examples, at the level of each game (choose the game's level in the editor). It applies to all your games.

Which plan has Spell Cast?

The Max plan, with its 5 magic mini-games. On the other plans you can try it with 5 questions. New Teens & Adults games arrive in the Max plan first.

Can the questions have a Portuguese translation?

Yes, you choose for each game. In the game editor (Library → New → Game, or Edit), under Language, pick English (English only) or English + Portuguese and write the translation of the question, the options and the explanation. It shows right below the English, on the projector and on the students' phones. In English-only games, no Portuguese shows anywhere, not even in the mini-games: every word pairs up with a meaning, a synonym, an opposite or a picture, picked at random every game. The ready-made A1 to C2 games already have all of this.

What are Mini Lessons, Flashcards and the Picker Wheel?

Classroom tools beyond the games. Mini Lessons are short lessons in slides, which you can also print or save as a PDF; Flashcards are decks to study, print or turn into a game; the Picker Wheel picks students or teams from your classes, with a fair mode and a history. You get a ready Mini Lesson and deck for every level, A1 to C2: they don't count towards your plan's limits and cannot be edited, only their language changes. The lessons and decks you create can be English only (buttons included) or come with the Portuguese translation.

Do students need an account to study from the link?

No. They open the link or the QR (Quick Response) code and study on the phone or the Chromebook. Only you can change the content, and you can turn the link off at any time.

Can we play without phones?

Yes. That's exactly what Projector Mode is for: only the projector is used, teams answer on paper or A/B/C/D cards and you tap their answers.

Does it work on Chromebooks and phones?

Yes. All it needs is an up-to-date browser. There is nothing to install.

How many students can play together?

Up to 10 on Free, 30 on Plus, 45 on Pro and 60 on Max.

What is a Quest?

A journey made of your games in a fixed order, one step per lesson. Each step earns up to 3 stars from the students' answers (you choose the pass mark of each step, 60% by default; 90% right earns three stars). Below the pass mark, the class plays the step again. You build Quests in your dashboard, under Quests.

Can I import the questions I already have?

Yes. In the Library, download the Excel template and use Import from Excel. One question per row, with the letter of the right answer. The Portuguese translation is optional, in the green columns. In the Mini-games sheet, you can also write an English meaning, a synonym and an opposite, for the mini-games of English-only games. The How to use sheet explains every column, with examples, and which mini-game uses what. Check the game in the maker before you play.

Are there ready-made games?

Yes. Every account comes with six English games, from A1 to C2 (CEFR levels), with 20 questions each (5 on the Free plan), and the ready-made Quest English journey A1 → C2, played by 2 teams. Each level also has a ready Mini Lesson and Flashcard deck. This ready-made content cannot be edited or copied: with the Edit button you only choose English only or English + Portuguese, and the questions and mini-games are drawn at random every game. You can delete it, but once deleted it is not added again.

Which mini-games are there?

In Projector Mode: Spin the Wheel, Mystery Box, Bomb Pass, Word Scramble and True or False Rush. In Live Mode: Balloon Pop, Word Catch, Memory Chest, Rocket Pump, Word Scramble, True or False Rush, Tug of War, Whack-a-Robot, Penalty Shootout and The Floor Is Lava. Each plan includes a different number of them.

Can I add pictures to the questions?

Yes, up to 3 MB (megabytes) each. Every picture is checked automatically before it is saved, and pictures that are not right for a classroom are refused.

How are scores fair between teams of different sizes?

Each team's moves and points are based on the average of its members, so a bigger team has no advantage.

Can students cheat?

No. The server decides the right answers, the timing and the result of every move. The device only sends the student's choice.

Can I use it for any subject?

Yes. Game On Quest was born for language teaching, with special tools for vocabulary, but it works as a quiz for any subject.

How do I cancel my plan?

There is no automatic renewal: your plan lasts for the days you paid for (30 days or 1 year). To keep it, just pay again in your dashboard, under Plan. We e-mail you 3 days before it ends.
